


James J. Yi
Biography
Born in Seoul and raised in San Francisco, James J. Yi is a passionate filmmaker dedicated to producing films that push creative and intellectual boundaries. With over 20 years of industry experience, he has developed independent film projects that focus on artistry, social consciousness, and giving voice to marginalized communities.He has produced several acclaimed films, such as Mooz-Lum (2010), Twinsters (2015), Miss Purple (2019), Death of a Telemarketer (2020), and To Live and Die and Live (2023). In 2017, he produced the Sundance NEXT Audience Award winning film, Gook, directed by Justin Chon. He is most recently the Executive Producer for the film Modern Whore (2025), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.James now resides in Toronto with his lovely Canadian wife, where he is learning to adjust to the long cold winters.
